Since I stopped playing DOTA and poker or any life consuming games I might have become quite productive. In the past month, besides getting pretty high marks in my exams (10, 9, 9, 8, 7, 7, x) I've finished watching 4 TV series (scrubs, glee, it's always sunny in philadelphia and modern family), went to around 4 parties, read 3 books and seen some movies.

Scrubs isn't that funny. The jokes are good, but the script is quite badly written because it only made me do "hmph, that was a good one" and not get a proper laugh. However, it gave me an insight into the way hospitals - not in Romania though - work.

Glee isn't my type either. It's... well, it's a musical and takes place in a highschool. I always liked watching highschool-related movies/series because I wanted to know how that particular period is lived in other parts of the world. However, I only watched it for that.

Gasca, the only guy I know who likes The Office <3, told me about a series which was supposed to be funny, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I had read some comments on IMDb about it and one person said that it's "Seinfeld on crack". So obviously I immediately downloaded it. Too bad... it's not. I mean, it's not even close to Seinfeld's humour. Nor is it to any other humour. It was dry and God knows I love dry humour but I didn't like this series. It just didn't click to me. At times, I might've caught some good jokes but all in all it's not worth it. Charlie is a fake copy of George and sadly, I didn't find Danny de Vito funny. And yes, I've seen all 5 seasons.

I found out about Modern Family when it was nominated at Golden Globe and decided to give it a try. It features the actor who played Al Bundy in Married with Children, who got kinda old. I watched it with my mother and neither of us found it funny. Again, some good jokes at times but all in all it's kinda dull.

HOWEVER, I have read an exceptional book, 1984 by George Orwell. My gosh was it good! It's written in 1949 but the action takes place in 1984 and it's about a totalitarian political system, mainly about communism. It's made up of 3 parts; the first one presents the main character, who hates the system and whose actions and thoughts are completely parallel because he could go to jail at any moment, the second part presents his 'love' story with a young girl who also hated the system and the third part tells the story of how they got caught and what happened to them. It is oficially the only book that gave me the shivers while I read it. You just have to read it for yourself to know what I mean. The guys who thought up the TV show Big Brother got their idea from this book, btw.

I have also seen a really great Chinese movie, Chibi 赤壁 - Red Cliff, which tells the story of the 3 kingdoms' war. I usually don't like action movies, but this one was so well written and the procentage between the war parts and the way they planned the fight is so good that I love it. Too bad that 10 minutes before the end of the movie I realized there must be a second part because the final war hadn't taken place yet and, as a matter of fact, I was right. I finally downloaded the second part, 赤壁下, but hadn't had the time to watch it. It's becoming harder to watch a Chinese movie properly, as I had 2 subtitles - one in English and one in Chinese - and I was paying attention to both of them - one for the actual meaning and one for the Chinese characters - and I also paid attention to their pronounciation and the actual movie :))). I had to go back a lot, when I kept looking at the characters and didn't get anything of the action. Fun, nonetheless.

Anyway, these were the reviews for today. Meanwhile I have started school and my Chinese teacher taught us the new Chinese lesson in... Chinese. It was a bit of a shock for us, soon it became interesting and then tiring which led to my lost of wallet, which I still haven't find. I didn't lose much - my ID, my ING Card and my Student Card, but for what I lost I have to wander about a lot. I didn't lose it just because of the Chinese course of course, I was also up since 4 o'clock so yeah...

My mom got in the hospital, she had an operation and I must say that Romanian hospitals are shit. Honestly. She had to buy everything, even medical tubes, nevermind the medicines. Also the staff are so insensate, so cold-blooded, it's like the patients aren't people. It was definitely nothing like what I've seen in Scrubs. Yes, I know, they were always this way just that I haven't gone to one for a long time. I also realized that I never had an operation, nor have I had a broken bone. It is going to be awful when I will, since I'm definitely not used to it. Well, let's just hope that my mom is going to be ok, since she still has to stay there for a week. Btw, my mom's problem appeared mainly because of smoking and she hasn't smoked ever! Just me, my father, my brother and his girlfriend smoked and my mom smoked only passively. So when she comes back we won't be smoking in our house anymore and most likely we won't smoke at all. Sucks.

Anyways... CUM sa pui beculete de Craciun sclipitoare, vesele si colorate pe geamurile serviciilor funerare. Am vazut anul acesta deja 3 magazine de servicii funerare cu beculete, dude!!! What's wrong with the world?! Oricine intra acolo in perioada asta, sigur NU simte spiritul Craciunului.

In alta ordine de idei, elicopterul pe care i l-am cumparat lui taicamiu de la targul de jucarii este... GENIAL?! E super fun si foarte tare :D.

A aparut noul patch de DOTA cu 2 eroi noi. Nu stiu ce sa fac, dar nu-mi prea vine sa mi-l instalez iar. E ca si cum abia as fi iesit de la reabilitare si ma apuc iar de baut... Hard choice nonetheless. Cred ca astept totusi sa vad daca trec de prima sesiune si abia apoi mai cantaresc pros & cons.

As dori sa ma las de fumat dar CUM? Am tot zis, gata, dupa Craciun, ma las. Dar vine Revelionul. Atunci ma las dupa Revelion. Dar vine sesiunea cu stresul ei cu tot. Dupa sesiune. Dar dupa sesiune cred ca ma duc prin Anglia la un pub crawl. Poate prin februarie desi cel mai probabil m-as apuca iar prin iunie inainte de cealalta sesiune. Uf. Macar sper sa pot sa le reduc dupa Revelion, treptat, treptat...

Am intrat in vacanta which feels nice, mi-am revazut 3 dintre prietenii intorsi din Anglia pentru sarbatori dar am uitat sa va spun cateva lucruri.

Acum vreo... 3 saptamani am fost la targul de jucarii which was awesome! Am gasit multe jucarii foarte tari dar dintre ele s-a afirmat urmatoarea:



Isn't that just wonderful?! Ma rog... Nu pentru oameni care pot avea animale reale ci pentru cei cu copii mici sau cu alergii mi se pare o idee foarte tare.

I-am cumparat lui taicamiu un gandac robotizat care reactioneaza ca un gandac, un elicopter care zboara si lui maicamea o papusa de portelan foarte frumoasa pentru Craciun.

I piss on Youtube because every moron on this fucking planet is able to record himself and post himself on the Internet, mostly talking about the stupidest of things and when I'm looking for something really or pretty important I can't seem to be finding it, because of all the space morons occupy. And I know you might be thinking "Hey, but that's exactly what you do!". Okay, BUT AT LEAST I DON'T NAME MY POSTS other things than they are just for the fucking traffic. Just check out Youtube and you'll see what I'm talking about.

OHOHOHO. Aici e aici.

1. Nu suport oamenii care nu asteapta ca lumea sa coboare si abia apoi sa urce in autobuz, tramvai, metrou. [am mai scris de asta in primul post]
2. Nu suport oamenii care se aseaza pe locul dinspre aisle in loc de cel de la geam. DE CE? DE CE SA FACI ASTA? Mai ales daca mergi multe statii, asezati-va domne la geam, mai ales daca e aglomerat. Lumea se aseaza frumos pe acel loc, iar daca autobuzul este foarte aglomerat nu are NIMENI cum sa ocupe acel loc. DE AIA ajunge asa aglomerat cacatul de autobuz. Prefer tramvaiul, macar nu are problema asta, pentru ca e conceput doar cu cate un scaun pe fiecare parte, JESUS.
3. Nu suport oamenii care se uita urat la mine ca nu dau locul personelor in varsta. Well, nu-s nesimtita. Il dau. Dar nu il dau in momentul in care mai sunt 3 locuri libere in autobuz. Ce, tre sa stea fix pe locul unde stau eu? De ce sa ma ridic si sa ma mut eu, in loc sa se duca acea persoana pe locul neocupat? Nu e ca si cand ar merge 70 de metri sa ajunga la el, for pete's sake.

Anim'est part 1

I have no time to waste, unless I want to waste some of my sleeping time, which I don't.

I just wanted to recommend you 2 movies:

1. Mary & Max, a really cute animation that's featured in the Anim'est 2009 animation festival.

2. Inglorious Basterds, a movie about the war against the Nazis directed by Quentin Tarantino that festures some greaaat actors and a great story! It's definetely a must-see!

I must go now, an episode of Hung awaits me.

M-am plictisit de mor. Astfel abia astept sa inceapa facultatea. Cate dota sa ma mai joc?! Cate filme si seriale sa mai vad?! CAT SA MAI PETREC?! :))

Revenind. M-am plictisit. Prin urmare am inceput sa observ cele mai inutile chestii.

Spre exemplu... Campania Hochland 8 triunghiuri la pret de 7. Sa mori tu! Ca n-o fi acelasi diametru si aceeasi cantitat... Dar na, recunosc, cand oamenii's prosti, profiti de ei :)).



De asemenea, eu inteleg ca Universitatea Ecologica n-are nicio treaba cu limba romana, dar mi se pare de bun simt sa se numeasca Universitatea de Ecologie.

Magazinasul numit Alex Calm de pe coltul unei strazi mi s-a parut initial ca are un nume tembel, insa... analizand situatia, era un nume mai mult decat potrivit. Magazinul era intr-o intersectie si practic aproape oriunde stateai vedeai magazinul si era ca o indemnare de "Stai calm in trafic". Sau poate am eu prea multa imaginatie si n-am ce sa fac cu ea.

Sunt socata de cate afise cu House MD si Californication sunt prin oras dar ma bucura aceasta schimbare. AXN, keep up the good work!

La ping-pong zilele trecute, prietenii mei au inventat un nou joc numit Betminpong. Se joaca partial cu masa si partial cu aerul, pentru cui nu i se pare destul de evident :P.

Iar astazi, ca sa intelegeti cat de rau ma pot plictisi - mai ales de cand mi s-a reglat programul de somn si am castigat vreo 4 ore de activitati... AM GATIT. Am facut spaghete si am pus tot ce mi-a trecut prin cap gen niste bulion, niste carne, niste legume, niste condimente, nu mai tin minte exact ce dar au iesit foarte bune. Sau doar mi-era mie prea foame. Poate scriu si-o reteta... cand mi-oi aminti ingredientele *whistling*.

In legatura cu filmele pe care le-am vazut in ultima vreme am de spus un singur lucru. Ma plictiseam rau de am rezistat sa ma uit la ele. Insa, am gasit si cateva filme acceptabile printre care pot enumera: Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, The Boat That Rocked, Grace, Factory Girl, World's Greatest Dad, Monsters vs. Aliens si cel mai dubios film de la Oldboy incoace: Mum & Dad.

Final Destination 3D sucked ass. Predictable & unoriginal.

In continuarea plictiselii mele ma voi apuca sa fac niste roboti din pachete de tigari, ma voi mai uita la cateva filme proaste si imi voi prelungi goldmembership-ul de la Garena.

So basically in the last episode of South park [season 13, episode 7, Fatbeard], Cartman decides to move from his little boring city and become a pirate in Somalia. I won't give away the whole episode however i feel the need to share with you one joke. When they arrived on the island, some somalian pirates stole the kids for ransom and went to find someone to buy them on the ocean. They met an UN french boat, and after they gave the pirates the ransom, they took the kids on boat. On the boat, Cartman tried to put his foot down with a real sword, so that the french will understand that that boat belongs to them now. The french didn't pay any attention to Cartman, but when another kid threatened them with a lightsaber they got really scared :)). Funny, eh?

By the way, do you like fish sticks?

The War at Home

Another TV series I love and don't think gets the appreciation it deserves is The War at Home - actually it's not about the appreciation it gets, it's about the fact that it's not so known. I truly think that Rob Lotterstein illustrated perfectly the idea of A FAMILY. You could say this is a new Married with Children show.

The parents who are always fighting over small things, the smallest kid using this as a way to make his parents do what he wants, the middle child who is said to have problems, and the biggest one, the teenager girl who has emotional problems constantly, all mixed up with incredibly funny lines make up this can't-hate / must-love show.

Maybe not any family can see itself in this series as there are some far-fetched situations - such as parents smoking weed - or maybe those are quite common in other countries but not in Romania. Also, Michael Rapaport is acting quite weird for a dad, in my opinion. He is a bit unrealistic, but it's not that bad eventually.

It has 2 seasons and for Family Guy lovers, this series also features Seth MacFarlane in an episode, in a quite freaky role!

I could talk on and on about this show but I actually want to re-watch another episode and I suggest you all do the same!

The Office

Although it is not really known in our country, "The Office" is a quite appreciated series in US and UK. This idea of a series taking place in an office was firstly done by UK - the series is quite wry and bitter as all the English are. Afterwards US tried to implement it and have done a better job that one might have excepted.

I would've compared and commented on these two versions of the show in detail but, personally, I couldn't watch any of the UK episodes as i couldn't understand a word they were saying, nevermind the jokes. If I had watched these episodes before the US series i might've given up, thinking that it is stupid and boring. However, I got familiar with the US "The Office" before knowing the UK version therefore I could enjoy it exhaustively without having any prejudices that it could be boring.

The two versions have the same mark on imdb, although the US one has thrice as many votes than the first - UK - one.


The Office US

The series is filmed as if it was a documentary thus it has an unique approach. "The Office" shows us real life, seen from the outside. In this way, we can see that everyone has its flaws and its follies and - maybe - we can even understand outselves and the people around us better.

All the characters have different personalities and most of them have serious problems, hence creating good laughs for the viewers. Considering the place where the action unfolds - a boring place where you go only because it's your duty - the show reveals some characters' desires to make it a funnier and a better place to work at, while the others only want to do their job.

Besides the real life facts, the show has a script and the lines are so amusing that i've laughed my head off at times. Only thing is that you have to know the movies, the actors, the songs, the historical facts, the news, etc, that they are referring to, in order to understand the jokes properly. I'm sure that I have missed some of the jokes just by not seeing a movie beforehand. For example, you can't understand Michael's impressions of Yoda and Chewbacca or the William Hung joke if you have no idea who they are.

There are, as in all series, some jokes that derive from the typologies that were created thoughout the episodes. For example, one of my favourite characters, the boss, lacks the appreciation of the people around him therefore he always tries to satisfy them all. As he can't manage to do that - being obviously impossible - he only makes the matters worse and that's why the others don't appreciate him. It's a cycle impossible not to laugh at, when outlined with good lines and great acting. This happens in almost all episodes, being molded with each episode's own story. Another character-drawing that was created is the girl that constantly tells you useless things in an incredibly loud voice, being very annoying. I find it really interesting and amusing seeing how people from the office cope with that.

PS. The boss i was talking about is Steve Carell, a comedian who can be seen playing in The 40 Year Old Virgin, Bewitched, Bruce Almighty, Little Miss Sunshine, Evan Almighty and Dan In Real Life - a movie i want to see for a while now, but don't quite find the time.

Most may find it too dry and hard to digest although it is neither boring nor difficult. Nonetheless, you can not catch the humour of a whole series by watching only one episode; you have to get used to their way of putting things and to enter the atmosphere.

Enough with the talking, you'll understand it better if you see for yourself!

South Park

In caz ca nu stiati, au aparut deja 3 episoade din noul sezon South Park. Fiind o fana infocata a acestui tip de umor si deci a serialului, le-am luat repede, repede, imediat cum au aparut, pregatita de ras, gandindu-ma ce or mai fi nascocit Matt Stone si Trey Parker.

Din pacate, si nu ma asteptam sa zic asta vreodata, am fost dezamagita. Multi prieteni, de asemenea fani South Park mi-au spus inca din sezonul 11 ca si-au pierdut din stil si ironie insa nu am fost de acord. De ce? Deoarece sezonul 11, dupa mine, a fost foarte bun comparativ cu 12 si bun comparativ cu restul.

Sezonul 11 - Highlights

1104 - The Snuke - caterinca de serialul 24, care a innebunit intreaga lume. De inteles.
1105 - Fantastic Easter Special - Kyle, evreul, ajunge sa fie rugat de Iisus sa il omoare. Din nou. Ironic.
1106 - D-Yikes! - Mr. Garrison, profesorul homosexual, care si-a facut operatie de sex in episoadele precedente, ajunge sa aibe relatii cu femei, devenind astfel lesbiana, totul pe script a la 300.
1108 - Le Petit Tourette - Cartman gaseste o cale prin care poate spune orice fara a fi pedepsit. Funny.
1110 - Imagination Land 1, 2, 3 - De multumit creatorilor pentru adunatura de cartoons de care multa lume uitase.
1113 - Guitar Queer-o - Ironie la adresa obsedatilor de jocuri, care in loc sa invete sa cante la chitara pe bune, apasa pe niste butoane si incearca sa faca high score. Din pacate, de aici au cam inceput sa se repete, existand inca vreo 2-3 episoade in care este satirizata obsesia pentru Nintendo Wii si bineinteles pentru WOW.

Iar episodul in care m-am amuzat cel mai tare este 1107 - Night of the Living Homeless. Nu numai ca fac misto de multitudinea de filme cu zombie care ne-a acaparat dar replica urmatoare m-a facut sa rad incredibil de mult:

Evergreen Villager: The homeless first started arriving in Evergreen about 3 months ago. At first they were only a few of them, asking for change, sleeping in the parks. But then more showed up. And we realized there was something different about them. They fed off of our change to the point that they could actually start renting apartments. We knew it wouldn't be long before the homeless actually started buying homes. And then we'd had no idea who is homeless and who wasn't. People living in the house right next door to you could be homeless and you wouldn't even know. Nobody could trust anybody. Fights broke out, war! That's when I starting suspecting my own wife, who I'd be living with for 20 years, was actually homeless. So I had to burn her, in her bed, while she slept. After she died, I vowed I wouldn't let the homeless destroy our town. So we came up with a plan to get rid of them once and for all.
Kyle Broflovski: You son of a bitch! You didn't solve your homeless problem, you just sent all your homeless to South Park!
Evergreen Villager: That's right, yes.

Sezonul 12 - Lowlights :))

1201 - Tonsil Trouble - Destul de interesanta ideea, insa si-au pierdut din farmec iar finalul a fost dezastruos. Cum au ajuns ei la concluzia ca banii sunt the cure for AIDS? Poate e vreo faza anume, de care nu m-am prins, dar momentan, pana nu ma lamureste cineva, traiesc cu impresia ca pur si simplu nu mai aveau ce anume sa includa in episod si au apelat la an-tan-te. Mi-a placut ca au facut misto de faptul ca sida e mai putin cool decat cancer iar replica cu "Are you sure? I'm not sure, i'm HIV positive." este foarte ingenioasa doar ca este folosita in exces, cel mai probabil din lipsa de alte glume.

1202 - Britney's New Look - Eu inteleg ca Britney este intr-adevar un fenomen in media in ultima vreme, si cum isi au obiceiul, Matt si Trey satirizeaza lucrurile recente insa abia daca am schitat un zambet la acest episod. Au folosit-o in exces pe Britney cu jumatate de fata, imagine nu tocmai placuta. Si nu spun ca pana acum nu au avut imagini mult mai deranjante, insa lipsa de umor din acest episod, m-a facut sa nu suport nici imaginea. Mi-a placut faptul ca atunci cand Britney avea doar jumatate de fata ei o puneau sa cante si sa sustina concerte in continuare. Foarte satiric. Finalul, insa, iarasi dezastruos.

1302 - Major Boobage - Ca si intr-un episod mai vechi fac caterinca de diverse metode folosite de adolescenti pentru a se droga. In episodul de care vorbesc, era vorba de pastile de tuse, insa de data aceasta au inventat un drog cu totul si cu totul original. E interesant cum foarte subtil incearca sa spuna ca drogurile trebuie legalizate si ca este doar vina oamenilor ca le folosesc [in exces sau pur si simplu]. Se folosesc pentru aceasta metafora de ceva inofensiv dar care dat pe mana unor oameni, aparent, devine periculos: o pisica. In orice caz, acest episod mi-a provocat mai multe zambete, si chiar rasete pe alocuri, decat episodul anterior.

Per total, dupa cum spunea cineva pe imdb, Matt si Trey ar trebui sa mai incerce putin din ce fumau acum cativa ani, cand s-au apucat de South Park, deoarece si-au pierdut din farmec.

NB. Am reusit sa gasesc subtitrari in romana si de asemenea am reusit sa o conving pe maicamea sa se uite cu mine la South Park deoarece ea traia cu impresia ca ei stiu doar sa injure si ca asta e tot rostul serialului. Dupa vreo 2 episoade, fiindca nu ii plac animatiile, mi-a spus ca intr-adevar au glume bune, insa limbajul lasa de dorit. Eh. Pentru noi, astia mai tineri si mai open-minded, limbajul e un plus.

PS. In cazul in care doriti sa vizionati South Park nu mai trebuie sa rugati prietenii sa vi le imprumute, sau sa cautati variante bune ci doar sa accesati linkul asta. South Park now free. Ma intreb de ce tocmai acum...

PPS. Pentru cei care sustin ca South Park este un serial de cacat, scuzati limbajul, trebuie sa realizeze totusi ca pentru a intelege glumele si pentru a prinde umorul, nu poti vedea doar un episod din sezonul 8 si gata: iti place bine, nu-ti place, aia e. Nu. Se creaza anumite tipologii, anumite glume care se repeta dar se muleaza pe subiectul fiecarui episod si asa mai departe, toate acestea contribuind la amuzamentul episoadelor. Si asta este valabil la orice serial.
